Accurate illumination system measurements

Ikaros is an integrated system for accurate illumination system measurements. It is used for beam pattern verification of manufactured reflectors.

Reflectors are mounted in a goniometer (rig) and rotated to match a measurement procedure designed by the user. A sensitive light sensor records the incident intensity at a screen in front of the reflector. Thus the whole beam pattern can be reconstructed.

Measurements are completely automated since Ikaros controls all system hardware including the reflector rotation rig, a highly accurate lamp power supply and light sensor measurements. Once the illumination pattern has been captured, it can be further processed and visualised as well as output as comprehensive measurement reports. All performed measurements are stored persistently for future reference.

The Ikaros system also handles important optical aspects of the measurements such as stray light elimination and intensity filtering according to the sensitivity of the human eye.
